ThumbsUp User Manual

Installation, Dashboard Operations & Analytics

This manual explains how to prepare a compatible Android tablet, install and configure ThumbsUp, operate the feedback system, access the dashboard, manage devices and users, analyze feedback, configure questions and alerts, use the AI assistant, export reports, and perform troubleshooting.

1. About ThumbsUp

ThumbsUp is an AI-powered touchless feedback system. A customer stands in front of the tablet and shows a supported hand gesture. The camera detects the gesture, and ThumbsUp converts the interaction into a feedback score available to authorized users through the connected dashboard.

The tablet display can show an overall experience prompt or a custom question configured by the organization. Customers answer the displayed question with the same touchless hand gestures, so ThumbsUp can support many survey and feedback use cases.

Which device is used for what?

Person or devicePurposeApplication or access
Customer-facing feedback tabletStays at the service location, displays the feedback prompt or scheduled question, recognizes the customer's touchless gesture with the selfie/front camera, and submits the answer.A compatible Android tablet running ThumbsUp - Touchless Feedback. It needs reliable internet and power for fixed use.

Manager computerProvides dashboard access for administration, monitoring, analysis, and reporting without installing a desktop application.Open portal.thumbsup.digital in a supported web browser and sign in with a manager account.
CustomerAnswers the question shown on the business's feedback tablet. No personal device, app download, account, login, QR code, typing, or screen touch is required.

Customers do not need to:

  • Download an app.
  • Create an account or log in.
  • Scan a QR code.
  • Type or touch the feedback screen.

2. Quick Start

This setup applies to the customer-facing Android tablet that runs ThumbsUp - Touchless Feedback. It does not apply to a manager's Dashboard phone, tablet, or web browser.

Android menu names can vary slightly by manufacturer and operating-system version.

StepInstructions
1. Enable Developer OptionsSettings → About phone/tablet → Software information, then tap Build number seven times. The exact path can differ by manufacturer.
2. Keep Screen AwakeDeveloper options → Stay awake. This keeps the display awake while the tablet is connected to power.
3. Turn Off Power SavingTypical Samsung path: Settings → Battery and device care → Battery → Power saving → Off. Wording varies by Android version and manufacturer.
4. Unrestricted Battery UsageSettings → Apps → ThumbsUp - Touchless Feedback → Battery → Unrestricted.
5. Screen TimeoutSettings → Display → Screen timeout, then choose the longest available time.
6. Turn Off Screen SaverSettings → Display → Screen saver → None / Off.

3. Tablet Requirements

ThumbsUp is not restricted to one tablet model. A suitable installation normally needs:

  • A modern compatible Android tablet with an integrated selfie/front-facing camera.
  • Wi-Fi or other reliable internet connectivity.
  • Reliable charging and power for continuous operation.
  • Suitable performance for continuous camera processing.
  • Stable, secure mounting.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 and Samsung Galaxy Tab A11 are recommended affordable options, but other compatible Android tablets may be used.

The selfie/front-facing camera is required. A tablet whose front camera is centered at the top when the tablet is mounted vertically in portrait orientation is highly recommended.

5. Install & Launch ThumbsUp

  1. On the customer-facing Android tablet, install ThumbsUp - Touchless Feedback from Google Play. Do not install the manager Dashboard app as the feedback kiosk.
  2. Open the application.
  3. Allow the required camera and network permissions.
  4. Complete the device connection or setup presented by the application or coordinated by ThumbsUp support.
  5. Place the tablet in the intended deployment position.
  6. Confirm the camera is unobstructed.
  7. For fixed installations, keep the tablet connected to reliable power.

6. Daily Operation

At the beginning of operating hours, confirm tablet power, internet connection, that ThumbsUp is running, that the camera is unobstructed, and that the screen remains active.

A customer faces the selfie/front camera and holds a supported hand gesture until the application accepts the answer and shows confirmation.

7. Dashboard Access & Navigation

Sign in with the username or email and password connected to the business account. Google and Apple sign-in are also available for supported linked accounts, and the login page provides password recovery. New businesses are onboarded through ThumbsUp rather than open self-registration.

The responsive navigation gives authorized users access to the pages enabled for their account:

  • Managers: create and manage direct manager accounts and their assigned devices.
  • Devices and Licenses: review assigned hardware, location, status, license expiry, and available device information.
  • Statistics: open Infographics or All Votes, apply time filters, group results, and export data.
  • Employees: maintain employee profiles, device assignments, weekly schedules, and individual statistics.
  • AI Assistant: ask questions about account feedback and generate charts comparing employees, devices, shifts, and performance across different locations.
  • Device Configuration, Alert Notifications, and Questions: control customer-facing behavior and service-quality monitoring.
  • Account, Help Center, and Suggestions: manage the profile, notification preference, policy information, and product feedback.

8. Managers & Device Assignment

Use Managers to organize direct manager accounts beneath the current account. The table shows each manager, assigned-device count, sub-manager count, and available actions.

Create a manager

  1. Select Add New Manager.
  2. Enter the manager's name, surname, email address, and phone number.
  3. Save the form, then assign only the devices that manager is responsible for.

Device assignment is limited to devices already owned by the current account. Updating an assignment replaces that direct manager's assigned-device list.

9. Devices & Licenses

Devices

The Devices page is scoped to the signed-in account and separates unassigned devices from managers and their devices. Use it to understand which manager is responsible for each unit and to update direct-manager assignments.

Licenses

The Licenses page shows device ID, serial number, device name, location, license expiration, current version, and status. License status is derived from the recorded expiration date.

Customers can use this page to monitor coverage and identify licenses that need attention. License extension and software-version deployment are administrator functions; contact ThumbsUp support when renewal or an update is required.

FieldMeaning
Device / IDThe assigned feedback unit and its numeric identifier.
Serial numberThe hardware serial recorded for the device.
LocationThe business location configured for the device.
License expirationThe date through which the device license is recorded as active.
Current versionThe reported application version when available.
StatusCurrent active or expired license state.

10. Statistics & Infographics

Open Statistics → Infographics to analyze feedback from the devices assigned to the account. The page combines summary metrics, time-series and distribution charts, and operational insight cards.

Choose a time range

Use Last Hour, Today, Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days, Last Year, All Time, or enter a custom start and end date/time. Dashboard timestamps and partial-day filtering follow the browser's timezone.

Choose how to group results

Group the chart by devices or employees. Employee grouping uses the employees stored on each vote at submission time.

Read the results

  • Review total feedback, average score, score distribution, and trends for the selected interval.
  • Use the chart legend to compare the selected devices or employees.
  • Review insight cards for the lowest-performing device, lowest-performing employee, and most active time when enough data is available.
  • If an insight has no qualifying data, the dashboard displays an empty-state message instead of inventing a result.

Feedback color ranges

The Average by filter defines the yellow score range: values below it are red, values inside it are yellow, and values above it are green. Owners and administrators can update the whole-number boundaries. The new range applies to future votes; existing votes retain their stored classification.

Export

Select Export to create a PDF of the active statistics view. On the web dashboard it downloads through the browser; in the mobile dashboard app it uses the native file-export flow.

11. All Votes

Open Statistics → All Votes to see the 50 most recent votes for the selected date range, newest first. Each row shows the device, feedback score, and time. The summary shows total votes, average score, and positive, neutral, and negative counts.

Export includes the same 50 votes shown on the page.

12. Employees & Working Schedules

Use Employees to add, search, edit, or remove employee profiles. The table shows employee name, assigned devices, working hours, rating, and actions.

Add or edit an employee

  1. Enter the employee name.
  2. Select one or more devices already assigned to the manager account.
  3. Add recurring weekday and time intervals representing when the employee works at those devices.
  4. Save, then review the displayed device assignments and working hours.

13. Employee Statistics

Select an employee's Statistics action to open the individual view. Choose a date interval to review the employee's assigned devices, feedback chart, summary results, and vote table containing device, score, and time.

Select Export to create an Employee Specific PDF containing the employee, selected range, feedback-range legend, summary and chart information, and detailed vote rows.

14. Daily Questions & Question Analytics

Daily Questions lets the customer-facing display ask a specific business question instead of showing only a general satisfaction prompt. Customers answer the displayed question with touchless gestures.

Create the rotation

  1. Choose the Day 1 starts on date.
  2. Add up to 31 questions, with no more than 160 characters per question.
  3. Reorder the list into the intended daily sequence.
  4. Select Save rotation.
  5. Enable Question Mode for the intended devices.

The active question changes at midnight according to the schedule timezone and returns to the first question after the last entry. The page reports how many assigned devices currently have Question Mode enabled.

Analyze answers

Apply a date range of up to 366 days. Summary cards show total question votes, overall average, questions voted on, voting days, and positive, neutral, and negative counts.

ViewInformation
By dayDate, displayed question, vote count, average, and sentiment distribution.
By deviceDevice, question, vote count, and average score.
Recent votesTime, question, device, score, and result category.

15. Device Configuration

The Device Configuration list shows assigned device ID, name, location, serial number, Online/Offline state, and last pulse. Open an assigned device to edit its customer-facing configuration. Name and location can also be updated for devices owned by the account.

Values are validated against their supported type and range. Administrator-only detection, camera-frame, debug, provisioning, and remote-support controls are intentionally not part of this manual.

Front camera requirement

Selfie/front camera: required so the customer can face both the displayed prompt and the camera while answering.

Orientation

Portrait/vertical mounting is highly recommended, preferably with the selfie/front camera centered at the top. Landscape remains configurable when the installation requires it, but the selfie/front camera must still face the customer.

After changing orientation, reopen the feedback screen if needed, then verify the image is upright, the selfie/front camera is active, the intended customer position is visible, the interface fits correctly, and a real test gesture succeeds.

Advanced device configuration

Only deployment-relevant settings visible to normal authorized users are listed below. Detection-engine, camera-frame, debug, and administrator-only controls are intentionally omitted.

SettingWhat it controlsDefault behaviorWhen to change itImportant note
Question ModeShows the scheduled daily question instead of instruction animations.OffEnable when the account has an active daily question schedule.Question scheduling and device coverage must be configured.
Time to Hold HandHow long a person must hold the gesture before feedback is accepted.2 secondsAdjust only when observed interaction speed requires it.A longer value asks customers to hold the gesture longer.
Hand Guessing TimeBriefly continues through a missed or blurred detection frame.0.4 secondsAdjust only when fast hand movement causes interrupted detection.Excessive values can delay recovery from a lost hand.
Maximum Deviation ScoreControls how much the hand angle may change before the hold timer restarts.20Change only after deployment testing shows unstable or overly strict detection. This is a detection tolerance, not a feedback score threshold.
Approve Widget Show TimeHow long the feedback confirmation is shown.1 secondChange when customers need more or less time to see confirmation.Keep long enough for clear acknowledgement.
Vote Result Show TimeHow long the result remains shown after a vote.5 secondsAdjust to suit customer flow and avoid immediate repeat interactions.Longer times reduce feedback throughput.
Hand Landmark Dot SizeControls the size of on-screen hand landmark dots.6Set to 0 when the dots should be hidden; otherwise adjust for display size.Visual-only setting.
Show Max When Feedback Is At LeastDisplays the maximum score when the calculated result reaches the configured value.80Adjust only to match the intended scoring experience. This changes the customer-visible maximum behavior.
Horizontal Tablet PlacementUses the horizontal/landscape application and camera layout when enabled; vertical/portrait when off.Off (vertical)Enable for a horizontally mounted tablet.Must match the physical mounting.
Mirror Camera HorizontallyMirrors the camera view left-to-right.OnChange if movement on screen appears reversed for the installation.Verify with a real gesture after changing.
Mirror Camera VerticallyFlips the camera image top-to-bottom.OffUse only when the camera image is vertically inverted.Verify image orientation after changing.
Feedback Value RangeSets the account’s low, middle, and high feedback bands for new feedback.Middle range 50-89Owners can adjust whole-number boundaries to match their operating standard.New boundaries apply to future votes; historical results keep their existing classification.

16. Alert Notifications

Open Alert Notifications to configure service-quality monitoring for assigned devices and the employees matched to them. Turn individual rules on or off, adjust their settings, and select Save changes. Use Recommended defaults to restore the standard settings.

TermMeaning
WindowHow far back the feedback-pattern rule checks.
Minimum feedbackHow much data must exist before the rule can trigger.
Quiet periodHow long the same alert is suppressed after it is sent.
Negative voteA score below the device's configured yellow range.

Device rules

  • Repeated negative feedback: checks for a configured number of negative votes within the selected window and minimum-feedback requirement.
  • High negative rate: watches the percentage of negative feedback within the window.
  • Sudden score drop: compares one period with the immediately preceding period of the same length.
  • No feedback received: checks for inactivity only after a device has received its first vote. This check runs daily and is not real-time offline monitoring.

Employee rules

Employee repeated-negative and high-negative-rate rules use the employees recorded on each vote at submission time. Historical attribution is not recalculated from a later schedule change.

Feedback-pattern rules are checked after new feedback. Alerts appear in the dashboard and may also arrive through browser or mobile notifications when the account preference and device permission allow them.

17. Notification Center

Use the bell in the dashboard header to open account notifications, review alert details, and mark items as read. The unread badge updates as notifications arrive and are read.

Browser and mobile delivery requires notification permission and a registered device. The account page also contains the account's communication preference. Turning off promotional or newsletter communication does not change historical feedback data.

18. AI Assistant

Where enabled, the AI Assistant accepts natural-language questions about the account's feedback data. Example tasks include identifying top-performing employees, comparing ratings, counting feedback by device, examining trends over time, and requesting a supported chart.

  • Select an existing conversation from history to continue it.
  • Select Create New to begin a separate analysis.
  • Check AI Tries Left before sending; requests are unavailable when the account allowance reaches zero.
  • When an answer contains a chart, open it full-screen or download it.
  • Chat history is account-scoped and keeps up to 50 recent conversations.

19. Account, Profile & Preferences

The Account page shows the signed-in manager's profile photo and account details. Upload or replace the profile photo and manage the available notification or communication preference. Name, username, and email are displayed as account information.

Delete Account

Account deletion is permanent and requires typing DELETE in the confirmation dialog. It removes the manager profile, notification tokens, and suggestions. All AI chats, generated charts, cached AI responses, and other AI data associated with that user are also deleted. Organization feedback and device records remain as business records without the deleted account profile.

20. Suggestions, Policies & Support

Use Suggestions to send product feedback through the dashboard. The Help Center contains the current Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. For operating help, use this manual or contact ThumbsUp using the support details below.

21. Feedback Data & Privacy

Ordinary feedback records contain the answer or score, timestamp, device identifier, stored result category, matched employees when applicable, and question metadata when Question Mode is active.

The selfie camera supplies live input for hand-gesture recognition. ThumbsUp does not collect biometric data, and ordinary feedback records do not contain a camera image or video.

Access is scoped to the signed-in account and its assigned devices. Use accurate manager assignments and employee schedules to keep dashboard reporting correctly separated.
